Nintendo has announced the NES Classic Edition, a console that is essentially a smaller version of the NES. This reboot includes 30 household games originally released on the NES like Super Mario Bros. 3, Metroid and The Legend of Zelda. November 11, 2016 marks the release date of the highly anticipated NES Classic over 30 years after the original release in 1985.
To add onto the nostalgia, this console will include a functional replica of the original NES controller. In addition to being compatible with the NES Classic, the controller can be used on the Wii or Wii U with NES Virtual Console games. Additionally, there are three display modes, such as the CRT filter that gives the screen a retro look and feel with a scan-line effect; the Pixel Perfect mode where every pixel is shown as a perfect square, providing the most accurate representation of the games as they were originally designed.
“This perfectly sized stocking stuffer could produce the same level of excitement that people felt over 30 years ago when they received the original NES as kids.”said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.”
The NES Classic has some new convenient features such three different display modes when playing, the ability to save at any time, and the option to view the games’ original manuals with any device–back when manuals were detailed with the controls, art, and background story.
All of the 30 games can be accessed from the home menu on the NES Classic Edition. This compact console, modeled after the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), will launch on November 11 at a suggested retail price of $59.99.
